Background

  • Web authoring software is software that makes websites.
  • They do this by generating the HTML and JavaScript code.
  • Examples of this are Google Sites, Wix, Word Press, Webflow, Bluefish and more.

Hyperlinks

  • A hyper-link is the key feature for these web programs. By clicking/tapping on a link, the screen changes to the selected link.
  • This link could be on the same webpage or a new webpage altogether.
  • The hyperlink goes to another web address.

Graphics

  • Web graphics are images on websites.
  • They can be background images, images on webpages or even text on a graphic, on a webpage.
  • Graphics for web need to be specific for the web. That means they need to be smaller in file size so they can load faster onto a webpage.

Templates

  • Modern website programs have templates, or webpages ready made for you to choose and start building.
  • This has made creating websites so much easier.

Types of Files

  • Web authoring files are very specific to building websites. The most common are .htm or .html and .css
    • CSS is a style sheet which presents the layout of a webpage (usually html). This style sheet gives the layout, colour scheme and visual effects.
    • HTML creates the structure and content of the webpage. It is the code used for this structure and content.
