Background
- With so many people sharing the internet and using social networking, there are times when things can go very wrong.
Responsible Use of Social Networking
Basic rules to follow include
- keep your screen time to a minimum
- don't just scroll mindlessly
- beware of clicking/tapping on items that could be dangerous
- understand your privacy settings
- photos posted can't be taken back- think before you hit send.
- mean comments can't be taken back - think before you hit send.
Forms of Cyber Bullying
- cyber stalking is very serious online bullying that can involve threats, false accusations, monitoring and more.
- doxing is openly sharing sensitive or personal information about someone without their consent.
- harassment is hurting someone by sending hurtful online messages.
- flaming is posting insults and obscene language directly to someone to start an online fight.
Strategies to limit Cyber Bullying
- don't respond immediately
- take screen shots to keep as evidence
- block it and report it
- disengage from the situation
- use privacy settings
- reach out to a trustworthy adult
- stop going onliine,(even for a little while)
