Background

  • Online collaboration means using the internet to communicate with others.
  • Millions of people use online collaboration for daily communcation at home or at work.
  • The Covid-19 pandemic has seen people working from home in extraordinary numbers. 2022 has seen this trend continue.

What Apps

  • Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Webex, Google Workspace, GoTo Meeting and lots more.

Synchronised Communication

  • People can talk in real time and discuss topics to find solutions.
  • This can happen through logging into the same application and passing information by written text (chat),  face to face via camera and audio, file display and sharing.
  • Zoom, Teams and Webex are the most common of these.
  • Participants can conduct meetings, view presentations, chat, have break out rooms and much more.

Unsynchronised Communication

  • People can leave chat or video reminders to workmates.
  • When the workmates login they see the chat and can respond.
  • A system of notifications can also be used so that individuals know when they need to check in.
  • Many schools are using a system similar to this. In WA govt schools they use Connect or Teams.
