Titles

• enables you to put titles at the front of the movie

• don't get too fancy with transitions or they take over your movie. (this is the same thing with powerpoint presentations)

Effects

• effects can make a movie so different (see here for a million dollar example)

• we don't have $1,000,000 to spend on effects, but if you have iMovie 10 check out how to put a picture in a picture effect

2. Add 2 tracks to Garage Band by dragging them into it.

3. As per the window, make them fade in and fade out so the 2 tracks alternate playing loud and soft.

Background

• Editing, converting and exporting audio provides the finished result of a final sound-track to be used in projects as needed.

• Audio software can be free software like Audacity, or pay for such as Adobe Audition. Others include Garage Band, Ableton Live, Logic Pro X, Sound Forge and lots more.

• The key point is if you want to edit audio, it is better to do that with audio editing software.

Editing

• Audio software editing can involve many project types such as making an original sound-track, making a compilation sound track (remember copyright laws) or making a combination of both.

• Editing involves adding audio tracks and choosing the parts of those that you want to include in the final audio track.

• Editing involves adding effects or filters and fade ins and fade outs, to some or all of your tracks.

• Editing also includes creating a mix down of your tracks to a final track ready for export

Converting

• Specific audio conversion software can convert from one audio format to another.

• Online-audio-converter.com is an online conversion tool that can convert any of 300 different audio file types to any other file type. One example is that you can convert an MP3 to a WAV file.

Exporting

• Audio software can export to multiple formats.

• An example is Audacity which exports to WAV, AIFF, MP3 and others.

• Your final file size and audio quality will guide which type you choose.

• Export to WAV will be a high quality sound.

• Export to MP3 can reduce to low file size and adequate quality.

Background

• Web authoring software is software that makes websites.

• They do this by generating the HTML and JavaScript code.

• Examples of this are Google Sites, Wix, Word Press, Webflow, Bluefish and more.

Hyperlinks

• A hyper-link is the key feature for these web programs. By clicking/tapping on a link, the screen changes to the selected link.

• This link could be on the same webpage or a new webpage altogether.

• The hyperlink goes to another web address.

Graphics

• Web graphics are images on websites.

• They can be background images, images on webpages or even text on a graphic, on a webpage.

• Graphics for web need to be specific for the web. That means they need to be smaller in file size so they can load faster onto a webpage.

Templates

• Modern website programs have templates, or webpages ready made for you to choose and start building.

• This has made creating websites so much easier.

Types of Files

• Web authoring files are very specific to building websites. The most common are .htm or .html and .css

  • CSS is a style sheet which presents the layout of a webpage (usually html). This style sheet gives the layout, colour scheme and visual effects.

  • HTML creates the structure and content of the webpage. It is the code used for this structure and content.

• Covid-19 has prompted many organisations directing workers to work from home.

• This has led to benefits of efficient 'work at home' practices, but has also caused the inability for some to 'get away' from work.

• The need for some to respond to the large volume of emails, messages and face to face meetings using Zoom, Teams or WebEx has caused an imbalance in their lives.

• If this worker is continually meeting the job needs of the workplace, this can lead to breakdown of mental health for that worker or their family members.

Consequences

Overcoming this Impact

Background

The appearance of a spreadsheet can be very important when other people will be looking at it. This is especially true for small or large business.

Composition, Layout and Design

• Composition is the make up of the spreadsheet.

  • Headings - across the top

  • Labels - text to describe

  • Numbers - contibute to calculations

  • Worksheets - Do you use multiple worksheets? or do you place large amounts of data on the single worksheet?

  • Graphs - to display numbers in graphical form.

• Layout is the display and placement of details.
  
  

  • Print/layout - What will it print out like given the current layout. It is a good idea to set orientation to landscape or portrait to match contents for each worksheet.

  • Spreadsheet start up cell visibility - Just before saving for the final time, click into the cell you want the spreadsheet to open for the next time it is opened.

  • Show/hide - You can hide worksheets, if that is necessary.

  • Freeze panes - Do you maintain visibility of the top row and/or column A

  • Use colour to determine cells used to enter data. For example all green cells in the spreadsheet are where you could enter data.

• Design considers how the spreadsheet is created and how it appears.
  
  

  • Colour effective use - Is green and blue fine for alternating colours for most of the data in the table?Is red the best colour for Car Sales in the image below?

  • Separate content from data - Some say it is best to separate the calculations of average, highest, lowest from the other rows

  • use of an uninterruptible power supply (UPS)

  • environmental temperature control

 Background

• BE CLEAR ON THIS - The current AIT syllabus dictates that UPS and environmental temperature control are the items to be described for this topic.

• Both of these are more suited to computer sytems in a server room which often have many servers that can overheat and will cause major hardware and software issues if turned off in a power failure.

Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)

• A UPS is electrical hardware that provides backup power for a computer system.

• The UPS is plugged into the wall socket and the computer system is plugged into the UPS.

• The UPS provides power to the computer when a power outage occurs.

• Another benefit of a UPS is to keep the power to the computer system at a constant voltage. This prevents power surges which can otherwise damage computer parts.

Environmental Temperature Control or Air Conditioning

• Computer systems can run hot at times so it is wise to have control of the temperature to prevent overheating.

• This is most suitable for server rooms and classrooms of computers.

• Computer systems that run cooler, will run more efficiently leading to better computer system performance.
