multi-track = many tracks, 2 or more
Multi-layer track editing
useful to get different camera angles of the same shot. (see guitar clip here)
1 camera angle is so boring. so to get two or three is far better
quality of your finished movie is so better
need high quality movie editing application like Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere Pro
iMovie is low quality as it only does one track editing
Titles
enables you to put titles at the front of the movie
enables you to put titles and transitions into your movie (watch this clip to see what it is like)
Transitions
these are how you move from one movie clip to another. examples in movie clip above
don't get too fancy with transitions or they take over your movie. (this is the same thing with powerpoint presentations)
Effects
effects can make a movie so different (see here for a million dollar example)
we don't have $1,000,000 to spend on effects, but if you have iMovie 10 check out how to put a picture in a picture effect

computer software has different licence types
this is because software has different developers and purposes
some are made by large companies and they offer excellent support for problems = big $$$$$$$
some are made by single persons who give away their software and can't afford a 'help' desk = small $$$
the code that made the software is available, it is NOT secret
no licence needed
free to use
minimal support
The code that made the software is NOT available, it is a secret
licence must be purchased to use it
is closed source software made by a company to make a profit
eg are Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Office and lots of others
because you pay for it, it usually has very good support and regular updates
copyrighted software
a type of proprietary software
a type of closed source software
free for a trial period, then you must pay for it, or uninstall it
usually limited functionality
copyrighted software
free to use
usually has a freeware version, free. But also a better 'pay for it' version
they give a free version to attract you to buy the 'pay for it' version
usually distributed in computer magazines or when you buy a digital camera, they give you a freeware version

Editing, converting and exporting audio provides the finished result of a final sound-track to be used in projects as needed.
Audio software can be free software like Audacity, or pay for such as Adobe Audition. Others include Garage Band, Ableton Live, Logic Pro X, Sound Forge and lots more.
The key point is if you want to edit audio, it is better to do that with audio editing software.
Audio software editing can involve many project types such as making an original sound-track, making a compilation sound track (remember copyright laws) or making a combination of both.
Editing involves adding audio tracks and choosing the parts of those that you want to include in the final audio track.
Editing involves adding effects or filters and fade ins and fade outs, to some or all of your tracks.
Editing also includes creating a mix down of your tracks to a final track ready for export
Specific audio conversion software can convert from one audio format to another.
Online-audio-converter.com is an online conversion tool that can convert any of 300 different audio file types to any other file type. One example is that you can convert an MP3 to a WAV file.
Audio software can export to multiple formats.
An example is Audacity which exports to WAV, AIFF, MP3 and others.
Your final file size and audio quality will guide which type you choose.
Export to WAV will be a high quality sound.
Export to MP3 can reduce to low file size and adequate quality.
Use audo software to create projects.
Features of web authoring software; 11 ATAR, 12 GEN
hyper-links
graphics
templates
types of files
cascading style sheets (.css)
hypertext markup language file (.htm / .html)
Web authoring software is software that makes websites.
They do this by generating the HTML and JavaScript code.
Examples of this are Google Sites, Wix, Word Press, Webflow, Bluefish and more.
A hyper-link is the key feature for these web programs. By clicking/tapping on a link, the screen changes to the selected link.
This link could be on the same webpage or a new webpage altogether.
The hyperlink goes to another web address.
Web graphics are images on websites.
They can be background images, images on webpages or even text on a graphic, on a webpage.
Graphics for web need to be specific for the web. That means they need to be smaller in file size so they can load faster onto a webpage.
Modern website programs have templates, or webpages ready made for you to choose and start building.
This has made creating websites so much easier.
Web authoring files are very specific to building websites. The most common are .htm or .html and .css
CSS is a style sheet which presents the layout of a webpage (usually html). This style sheet gives the layout, colour scheme and visual effects.
HTML creates the structure and content of the webpage. It is the code used for this structure and content.
Create your own websites to put this learning into practice.

Online collaboration means using the internet to communicate with others.
Millions of people use online collaboration for daily communcation at home or at work.
The Covid-19 pandemic has seen people working from home in extraordinary numbers. 2022 has seen this trend continue.
Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Webex, Google Workspace, GoTo Meeting and lots more.
People can talk in real time and discuss topics to find solutions.
This can happen through logging into the same application and passing information by written text (chat), face to face via camera and audio, file display and sharing.
Zoom, Teams and Webex are the most common of these.
Participants can conduct meetings, view presentations, chat, have break out rooms and much more.
People can leave chat or video reminders to workmates.
When the workmates login they see the chat and can respond.
A system of notifications can also be used so that individuals know when they need to check in.
Many schools are using a system similar to this. In WA govt schools they use Connect or Teams.

The impact of digital technologies on work/life balance; 11 ATAR, 12 GEN
Working in an office or workplace has been the norm for many centuries. Digital technologies have led to a change in the workplace that now makes it possible with excellent connectivity to work from home.
Covid-19 has prompted many organisations directing workers to work from home.
This has led to benefits of efficient 'work at home' practices, but has also caused the inability for some to 'get away' from work.
The need for some to respond to the large volume of emails, messages and face to face meetings using Zoom, Teams or WebEx has caused an imbalance in their lives.
If this worker is continually meeting the job needs of the workplace, this can lead to breakdown of mental health for that worker or their family members.
family breakdown
mental health issues
physical issues such as eye strain, headaches, neck pain, wrist pain and more.
Workers need to set aside a work routine based on timings that work for them and their employer.
This ensures the work tasks get done.
They also need to set aside specific timings to have time away from work.
This ensures leisure time is planned for and can actually happen.
If a work/life balance still can't be achieved, then some individuals may need to consider 'digital detox'. This means spending time away from all digital devices for a set amount of time.
Make a list of your use of digital devices (screen time) at particular timings as below.
weekday
evenings
nights
Weekends.
Next to each of these record your 'screen time' in hours.
Compare your results with those of a friend.
Describe your work/life balance considering the possibility of your over-use of technology? If yes, how can it be fixed?
Composition, layout and design considerations for the construction of spreadsheets 11 ATAR, 12 GEN
considerations = what to add to a spreadsheet
composition, layout and design = parts, setout and how they will look
The appearance of a spreadsheet can be very important when other people will be looking at it. This is especially true for small or large business.
Composition is the make up of the spreadsheet.
Headings - across the top
Labels - text to describe
Numbers - contibute to calculations
Worksheets - Do you use multiple worksheets? or do you place large amounts of data on the single worksheet?
Graphs - to display numbers in graphical form.
Layout is the display and placement of details.
Print/layout - What will it print out like given the current layout. It is a good idea to set orientation to landscape or portrait to match contents for each worksheet.
Spreadsheet start up cell visibility - Just before saving for the final time, click into the cell you want the spreadsheet to open for the next time it is opened.
Show/hide - You can hide worksheets, if that is necessary.
Freeze panes - Do you maintain visibility of the top row and/or column A
Use colour to determine cells used to enter data. For example all green cells in the spreadsheet are where you could enter data.
Design considers how the spreadsheet is created and how it appears.
Colour effective use - Is green and blue fine for alternating colours for most of the data in the table? Is red the best colour for Car Sales in the image below?
Separate content from data - Some say it is best to separate the calculations of average, highest, lowest from the other rows
Bold - Do we use bold for the headings?
Justification - Do we justify headings to the right if the column below is to the right?

Background
Social networking means locating people, usually friends, and sharing time together.
Digital technologies has digitised this process and made it very easy to locate many people and share stories or time together 'online'.
Social networking can help locate people with similar interests. This provides immediate source of new friends, without leaving the house.
Social networking can help people learn or focus on new ideas. This provides refreshing opportunities for those bored with their current situation.
Social networking uses the resources of the internet, digital devices and software to share content.
Essential parts of social networking are below.
People
These are members of the software application who sign up so they can share content.
Digital hardware devices
This the hardware involved; servers, routers, switches, 4G/5G mobile towers and also the hand held, laptop or desktop devices.
Connectivity
This is the connectivity that links the hardware devices to the internet to enable sharing.
A carrier is the company who provides this. eg Telstra
Software apps
This is the software loaded onto the digital devices to enable the sharing to occur. eg Facebook, Tik Tok, Twitter, Snapchat and more.
Content to share
The data that people share is called the content. This is in the form or text, audio or movie
List the 5 essential parts of social networking.
Write a brief description next to each one describing what it is.
Considerations for the purchase of hardware 11 ATAR, 12 GEN
cost
specifications
user needs
considerations = what to think about
purchase of hardware = purchase of any digital device
The current AIT syllabus dictates that cost, specifications and user needs are the items to be described for this topic.
An important factor to consider is how much money is to be spent on this purchase.
The final purchase will be a result of how much money is available to spend on this digital device.
Included in the cost is the hardware, software, warranty and/or a digital device maintenance plan.
What parts are going to be available for this purchase.
Is this purchase for a laptop, a tablet, a desktop a server or other?
If the device is decided upon, then what type of components will be used.
Top of the range components are going to cost a lot more that medium range components.
The individual who has this computer will have different needs to others who may want a digital device.
A graphic designer will need a digital device with increased CPU speed, larger quantity of RAM, high end GPU and large screeen.
A student who needs to research and type up documents will not need 'high end' components.
The user needs dictates what type of digital device is purchasesd.
How does cost influence the type of digital device to be purchased?
How does specifications influence the type of digital device to be purchased?
How does user needs influence the type of digital device to be purchased?
Research to describe a digital device that could be used by a graphic artist in their full time employment.
Research to describe a digital device that could be used by a student in school.
Physical maintenance strategies for use of a computer system 11 ATAR, 12 GEN
use of an uninterruptible power supply (UPS)
environmental temperature control
BE CLEAR ON THIS - The current AIT syllabus dictates that UPS and environmental temperature control are the items to be described for this topic.
Both of these are more suited to computer sytems in a server room which often have many servers that can overheat and will cause major hardware and software issues if turned off in a power failure.
A UPS is electrical hardware that provides backup power for a computer system.
The UPS is plugged into the wall socket and the computer system is plugged into the UPS.
The UPS provides power to the computer when a power outage occurs.
Another benefit of a UPS is to keep the power to the computer system at a constant voltage. This prevents power surges which can otherwise damage computer parts.
Computer systems can run hot at times so it is wise to have control of the temperature to prevent overheating.
This is most suitable for server rooms and classrooms of computers.
Computer systems that run cooler, will run more efficiently leading to better computer system performance.
What does UPS stand for?
What two things does a UPS do?
How does environmental temperature control benefit a computer system?
What type of computer system is likely to need air conditioning and a UPS? (see background above)
